About

You could take a look at my facebook page and figure out what kind of music or movies I like, but that can’t really explain the style I enjoy. This blog is for demonstrating that — with respect to Japan, specifically. The main blog will be what’s going on in my life, but the rest of the features are open to just any ole culture. Starting in June of 2011, one of the main purposes of the blog has been to showcase my Movie Quest, an undertaking for which I will watch and review dozens of Japanese films.

If you’d like to get in touch with me while I’m in Japan, I’d be happy to hear from you. However, I don’t want to leave any contact information on this site, so check out my facebook for it [Colin Moreshead]. You can always find me on Twitter by the handle TokyoRemix.

This is great!…I would just change the style of this comment thing from regular black text on white. Take pity on those of us with 50 year old eyes. Mom

I love this site Colin! What a great opportunity for your family and friends to not only keep in touch with you and your adventures, but also to learn first hand interesting facts and thoughts about a country so intertwined with our own. I look forward to reading these thoughts as only you can present them. We are all very proud of you Colin for who you are and the amazing things you do. You will remember this journey for the rest of your life, so enjoy the ride.

      Hello Colin,
Thanks so much again for your effort in providing updates of this site. I know how busy you are with JASC activities and taking time out to provide us descriptions and pictures of your experience is GREATLY appreciated. We all miss you very much, and these entries are one way for us to stay connected over a very long distance. I find myself accessing this site quite often when I think of you. Please take care of yourself, be careful, and take every opportunity to get some sleep as I know you have been totally consumed with JASC since you arrived. The JASC conference is almost over, and you can take some time to marvel in the result of a full year’s worth of hard work along with enjoying a few weeks of well earned off time. You have surely earned it!

Greetings in Tokyo. We just got word today that you had landed. I will blame your father for not setting up a send off meeting. In any event, Jan and I will be following your Blog with interest over the coming months. I am sure you are planning it, but take the Bullet down to Kyoto and when you get to the Golden Palace, light a stick or two on our behalf. Take care, enjoy your (significant) JASC resposibilities and school. Kenishiwa!

Col, your mom sent me your website and I had a ball reading it. What an adventure you are on! I know you will do extremely well in your ‘home’ away from home over the next year and can’t wait to read more and see pictures! Have a ball! Aunt Patti

    Hi Col,
I love that you visited the Hokusai Museum. I have been a fan of Hokusai for quite a while – lovely compositions, lovely colors, powerful pictures! Van Gogh was also a fan of Hokusai and did several Hokusai inspired paintings. I wonder, did the museum have any displays to acknowledge that? I am enjoying your blog and all the pictures – I keep looking for a little frog in them… Ginny

  7. Ginny says:

Correction: vangogh painted after Hiroshige not Hokusai. Oops. Same timeframe, check it out on WIkipedia. G.

Great way to keep up with your life in Japan. Hope that your dad liked the Porche picture. Looks good to me. How about Volvo and Jeep in Japan? All well here and hope that your experience continues as great as it has started. We miss seeing you at WesTech where all seems to be in order, although we are certain that they miss your touch. Keep the messages coming. We really enjoy it.

We sort of like the “new” hair style with or without wax. Sounds like things continue to go well. Can’t say that we envy the train ride , but it is what it is and if it gets you there, good! Keep the news coming. I am sure that everyone enjoys it … we certainly do.

Holy cow! What a saga (or sagas) you have had and related. Thank you for the political update. Very interesting and helpful. Trust that now that the visa ordeal has passed that you will have a chance get a little rest … and catch up with the other things you have to do.
    Fond regards, as ever,
    Biff & Jean

Just read about the “almost” skiing adventure. Too bad there weren’t any skiis … but I’d say that you made the right decision about day 2 and that all sounded like great fun. Many years ago (1952) I did much the same thing with a group of my friends on a trip to Sun Valley, Idaho. At the time I was working out there and had several gung-ho skiers among my friends. I saw the folly of my partaking in their deep and steep snow adventure, but I skated and swam (outdoors) and had a glorious time. Where there is a will … a way.
Keep the news coming. And greetings from Jean and me,
    Biff
